What Is Local SEO?

When the majority of people need to find a local busness or service, the first thing they do is check Google. On the first page of Google there is always a small Google map section showing the top 3 local results for that search.

If your business is in that top 3, then you have a very good chance of being contacted by anyone searching for your services. Those in the top 3 get roughly 80% of the traffic combined.

All other similar businesses in the area (those that rank #4 or worse) are left splitting the remaining 20% (translating to 1%-4%  individually depending on the level of local competition).

Local Rank Mapping

Let’s say you own a plumbing company. If someone opens Google and searches for something like “plumbers near me”, you definitely want to be the first option they see to have the best change of getting their business.

On the Google map result above, you’ll notice that Brewer Plumbing is in the #1 position, and that the company called Extreme Plumbing is not in the top 3.

The two rank maps below show how each plumbing company ranks in local search from various parts of the city. You can see that Brewer Plumbing ranks in the top 3 across more than half of the city, while Extreme Plumbing ranks outside the top 20 regardless of where the searcher is located.

Obviously, Brewer gets a lot of phone calls from people in the area searching for plumbers, while Extreme Plumbing likely doesn’t get any calls from Google searches at all.

How It Works

There are many factors that affect your rank in local Google searches, such as:

  • local directory citations & NAP
  • on-site SEO
  • Google My Business optiization
  • geo-tags

We research your competition to see exactly what has them ranking at the top of searches. Once we have that information we simply duplicate all of those factors for your business, giving Google what it needs to rank you at the same level. Finally, we go over and above to push you past your competition in every ranking factor, drastically increasing the likelihood that nobody will be able to push you out of your top ranking.

FAQ

WHY CAN'T I START WITH THE MAINTENANCE PACKAGE?

The Maintenance package is designed only to help maintain your local search rank once established, not help you climb in the local rankings.

WHAT IS GOOGLE MY BUSINESS?

Google My Business is your Google business listing that actually shows as the result for local searches (see image of mobile phone at the top of this page). The entire goal of local SEO is to rank this listing in the top 3 results (which show on the first page of Google by default).

WHAT IS A DIRECTORY CITATION?

A good example of a directory citation is a Yelp listing. There are thousands of directories across the web, and making sure they’re each optimized and have the same, correct information for your business is essential for ranking well in the local Google map results.

What is local rank mapping?

When you perform a search on Google, the rank of the local results is partially based on the proximity of the searcher to the businesses being displayed. We use local rank mapping to overlay a grid of dots onto a map of your area, each one showing where you rank when someone performs a search from that specific geographic point.

WHAT IS ON-SITE SEO?

On-site SEO the optimization of your website to ensure that Google indexes it properly and for the keywords that relate the best to your business. It’s about 50% of a good overall local SEO strategy.

what is a local citation cleanup?

Many businesses have at least some local citations, even if you didn’t build them yourself. The public can submit information about your business to directories, and if that information isn’t accurate it can drastically hurt your rankings. We scour internet for this info so we can either get it corrected or removed so we can rebuild it from scratch the proper way for local optimization.
